Olaf's Hammond Page

Here are some photos of my Hammond organ, a 1960 Hammond C-3 (from abt. 1960) and a Leslie Speaker 122. Further down the page you will find photos from the organ's interior, taken the 30th of January 1995, when I changed the old Tonewheel Filter Capacitors to GOFF Professional's Hand Matched Filter Capacitor Kit. I also added the 12 RC-filters (also with the kit) to some spesific tone generator terminals, removing annoying crosstalk produced in the tone generator. The Kit worked all over my expectations, and improved the organ sound to almost the best I've ever heard :-). I'll highly recommend it! And many thanks to Al Goff who provided the medicine my organ strongly needed. Let's proceed ...

My C-3 and the Leslie 122. My ca. 1970 Fender Presicion Fretless Bass on the left side.

Oil intructions on the inside of the organ. The two centralized cups distributes oil through thin copper pipes to the generator lubrication cups and to the lubrication cup at the syncronous motor and the vibrato/chorus scanner.

Serial number plate inside the organ.

Treatment no. 12?? Anyone who knows what this mean?

Under the bench I found an oil chart with no records filled in. I guess the previous owner was not an accounter ;-), since the generator seems to run excellent. Hope it's readable.

Take a look at the back of the 122.

And a closer look at the rotating horn.

Following the instructions with the Goff kit, it was quite easy raising both manuals and propping them up with two pieces of wood. But notice, the manuals are HEAVY!. First one need to remove the four long bolts located under bottom shelf of the organ. As you see, you now get quite easy access to the top of the tone generator.

A more close look.

And now, the old caps should be quite visible.

New caps in place.

All the old caps out. I noticed a few of them were different. Anyone who knows why?

I also added the 12 RC-networks which improved sound quality a lot by selectively removing annoying crosstalk produced in the generator. The RC-network (the yellow capacitor and the resistor) is quite hidden behind the black wires.

Result of changing the caps? Unbelievable! The old classic Hammond Sound is back. I'm in HAMMOND HEAVEN!
